Normally plugging in headphones cuts off the external sound, but the alarm is an exception. The one flaw I've found is that the SNOOZE is fixed at 5 minutes. All in all this is a great clock radio, very well designed. Well designed, in this respect at least. Some of us find that too short and there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust it. One nice feature is that even with headphones plugged in, it still wakes to the radio. Also nice is that the alarm sound gradually gets louder.
including very powerful stations that came in beautifully prior to this breakdown. I sent the following e-mail to Sangean about 3 weeks ago. I am yet to hear back from anybody at Sangean.Dear Sangean -I bought an RS-330 on October 5th through/from AMAZON. The radio worked GREAT for a month, but now it just crackles on all stations. I discarded the original packaging because the radio worked very well and I was not worried about having to send it in for repair or replacement. In order to install it where I wanted it to be located, I had to cut the power cord and then splice the cord back together.
it just failed. If cutting and splicing the power cord voids my warranty, please let me know. to the product manager for my area and to two addresses at customer service. Nothing abusive happened to the radio. This was not a problem. I know how to splice a cord. If not, please send instructions for repair or replacement.
The unit was manufactured in August of 2008, # 30008342.Thank you,John Hartung
I purchased this item seven months ago and I remain convinced that this is probably the best item that I have ever purchased from Amazon (I'm a regular customer). It is accurate and reliable with excellent sound quality. I find the settings easy to use and the screen easy to read. After many years of searching, I have found a clock radio that provides me with both pleasure and dependability.
This is the son (or grandson) of a Proton clock radio I have had for 15 years or more and which developed so many small glitches it needed replacing. The great feature of the old Proton was superior sound quality for the size & price. The new Sangean is the same size & weight (so I think the old speaker is still there) with the added virtue of digital tuning & station presets.I paid about the same price in dollars that I paid 15 years ago for a truly improved product.A good deal.
I PURCHASED THE PREVIOUS PROTON MODEL IN 1991. STILL GOING STRONG; BUT THE MEMORY CAPACITOR IS NOW GONE AFTER SO MANY YEARS. STILL THE SOUND IS VERY GOOD WITH THE COMPANION " SLAVE" ATTACHMENT SPEAKER. IT'S MY FAVORITE ALARM CLOCK FROM ALL TIMES.
